Bikes. Parts. Chaos.

Remember that perfect day when the temps were in the low 70s, there was little to no humidity, and a few wispy clouds were drifting across the sky? Your whole day was free for a long ride on your favorite trails. You and your bike were in sync like yin and yang. Then all of a sudden as you were gazing at the lake off to your right an obstacle pops out of the ground right in front of your wheel. Bam! You’re lying on the ground gasping for air as you wonder what the hell just happened. Well, Surly has had a couple of OTB incidents lately which have had an impact our product availability.

Recently we have noticed some concern being spewed out on the internet that we might be down and out. I wanted to send a message that we don't go down that easily. When we stumble and fall we get back up, dust off the dirt, and sometimes laugh at ourselves for our foolishness.

So what's going on then with Surly?
-About one year ago we made some changes in how we do business with our suppliers. Without going into the details, we had some challenges with rebuilding our supply chain and systems, which created some delays with production and delivery of our products.
-In the past year or so we made some purchasing decisions which tied up our dollars in the wrong inventory and meant we were short on the stuff we needed. Forecasting what consumers will desire in the future is always a gamble. We lost a couple of bets.
- In addition, at Surly we take product safety very serious. As a global brand, that means that we have to meet and/or exceed a variety of regulations. Recent changes in global testing and certification standards have sparked changes [some minor, some full redesign] to many of our products. These changes take time to implement and some have taken longer than initially planned.

The good news is we are over the hump and seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. In the coming months many of our Domestic stock outages will soon be resolved. Stragglers, Ogres, Disc Truckers, 700x41 Knards, chainrings, cogs, and rim strips will be available in the near future. Most of our international partners are on a similar timeline for recovery as well. Don't forget product availability can vary from market to market. So next time you stop into your favorite local dealer for a Surly fix, cut them some slack and curse us instead.

P.S. Stay tuned because we have some top secret products in the works that will be released in the next 6 to 8 months that just might blow your mind.

About Pintz Guzld

Paul Zeigle a.k.a. Pintz Guzld

There is a cornerstone at the Intergalactic Headquarters building that has a crude pictograph scratched into it of a person laying flat on his back with the words “Pintz Guzzled” written beneath it in a shaky scrawl. Paul was there in the beginning and has come back to guide our band of miscreants through the maze of commerce called the bike industry as our Brand Manager. Paul enjoys jumping his bike over fires, sleeping in highly crafted snow banks and basically anything that doesn’t require standing still.
