Almost an Unfair Advantage

So, What the Hell Is “Performance,” Anyway?

For one thing, it's a loaded word, and one that gets tossed around a lot like it means the same thing to everyone. Here at Surly, performance is how a bike shows up and holds up when shit gets rough. Less about shaving grams and flexing stats, and more about how it feels to be deep in a ride, soaked in sweat and chasing daylight –– and you’ve still got plenty of gas left in the tank.

We'd like to say the new Straggler is a well-performing machine, given its smattering of thoughtful upgrades, which include:

  • Geometry, wheel size, and tubing optimized to hone that Surly steel ride feel
  • Dropper post capability for when the downhills throw you a wild card
  • Thru-axles front and rear for more precise handling
  • 50mm tire clearance for a confident ride on busted terrain
  • A 44mm head tube and flat mount brakes make it easier for you to Make It Your Own (MIYO)

To get back to the question at hand...Performance is what you make of it. Our bikes don’t perform for you; they perform with you. And when that clicks, it’s damn near an unfair advantage.
