Well this is new

Attention people of Austin, Texas!

Johnny and I have have been given unprecedented furlowes from the confines of the Surly Institute for the Morally Suspect and we're headed your way. In fact, we're headed your way with a corral of Big Dummy bicycles and we're fixin' to ride with you. We invite you to join us for good times, mellow riding, feats of strength, bar stops, and high fives on Saturday, June 5th.

Bring whatever bike you like. Ride with us. Try out a Big Dummy. Participate in the mini-competitions along the way, win prizes, and have good times.

Did I mention that we will be GIVING AWAY A BIG DUMMY COMPLETE BIKE? You must be in attendance to win, so be in attendance.

Road Trippy

We recently received this link to a video from our Japanese distributor.  You can enhance your viewing experience by dancing.

Fleck and I met this guy (Hanzi san) at our Big Dummy Meat-Up in Tokyo last summer. He is, for the lack of a better word, enthusiastic about his Big Dummy.

Check out his flickr page for many more photos of his Dummy and his adventures.

The topic of Hanzi san and Japan is appropo since four of us Surlies are about to embark on yet another adventure there in two days.  Trevor, Grayboy, Fleck and I will be visiting Tokyo, Nagoya, Kurashiki and Sapporo in search of things to drink and break.  We are bringing compact camcorders on this tour, so assuming we don't break (or drink) those we might come back with some footage to show or not show.  As I've preached to the choir, the bad thing about video is that it provides evidence of acts we might not want to have evidence of.  It's true, we might end up in a Japanese prison, or at the very least lose our jobs, but it will all be worth it I'm sure.

Some evidence is just too good not to have.

Other evidence... Not so much.

See you wouldn't want to be you...

The NCC HAC Gravel Metric

We are lucky to have some friends in the bicycling world who know how to do things right.

If you're not doing anything on May 30th (and we know you're not you slack-jawed dingleberry), get yourself to DeKalb, Illinoize for this:

Tobie and his band of goofballs are good eggs and you'll be a better person for having met and ridden with them.

Conveniently, they also run a bike shop. So, if you need a bike (say, a Surly) they can sell you one with both bells and whistles. If your current pile don't run good, they can make it run good. If you don't have a bike and don't want one, they can probably give you a buck on their handlebars.

Thanks,

Skip

Hobos Got to Have Fun Too

People. Please join us in the mighty metropolis of Decorah, Iowa for the second annual Dirt Burger cycling extravaganza. It's loosely organized, but there's cheap beer, camping under a bridge, miles and miles of sinlgetrack, trout fishing, nice folks, a very professional volunteer fire department, like-minded a-holes on bikes, and locally raised bacon. Bring your mountain bike and have fun. The porta-potties will once again be sponsored by Surly Bikes who invite you to "Drop a Duce on Us."

Hugs,

Skip
